History of the Club The GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Bergenfield strives to improve the quality of its community through the efforts of a vibrant and dynamic group of women. The club organizes service projects and fund raising events, disbursing the proceeds to local and national charities and organizations. The Junior Woman's Club of Bergenfield is an organization of young women between the ages of 18 and 40 who are interested in the community and dedicated to the promotions of welfare, services and intellectual growth. Our motto is: As we work "trying to accomplish something, not merely to exist". Our club was organized in 1927 and joined the Federations in 1937. The first President of the Bergenfield Juniors was Mrs. Teetsel. During the early 1930's, the membership was very small and the meetings were held in one another's homes. By 1937, the membership had grown to 100 members and since going to each other's house was no longer a suggestion; a store on Prospect Avenue in Bergenfield was rented and furnished by the members. During these times, the major project was Braille (work for the Blind). The Juniors would hold an annual card party, from which the proceeds went to Braille. Throughout the years, ideas and areas of need have changed, but not the spirit of service each member carries. Currently the Bergenfield Juniors take pride in what has been set and what will be in the future for the Bergenfield and Dumont communities. There are many projects throughout the year and the proceeds go to various local and national charities. Today, the Bergenfield Juniors meet at the Shelter House at Cooper's Pond in Bergenfield, NJ.
